Ensuring jobs for local people?

It is often the misconsession that big developments like this bring no jobs for those who live locally. However this development includes commercial shops, green space and more which will all require people to be doing a job. This shows that our planned development both provides high skilled jobs for local people in the offices as well as lower skilled. This keeps with the vision because it makes sure people will be taking care of the public space making it an area where a company would want to invest in. This is similar to the concept of how there are also lower skilled jobs available for people in Canary Wharf.

Opening up spaces for a range of uses and users?

One of the key ideas that we really want to bring forward with our development is mixed use. The reason for this is because it has a lot of social benefits. The open space that we are proposing will create a place for people and therefore brings the health benefits of getting out and about. This can be for both local people and for those who will be working in the new offices if they want to go outside at lunch for example. We are also looking to improve the blue infrastructure to make use of the water on the site by encouraging leisure activities.

Providing Social and other Facilities?

The development will also provide excellent facilities for members of the public to use. In the design we plan to have: A doctors/dentist surgery, local shops, a leisure centre including a gym. The doctors is particularly important because other similar facilities that are nearby are low quality service. These facilities are not just aimed at the existing community in the area but will also help allow the business sector to thrive because they will make it a better place to work and therefore will attract big firms. We have also considered setting up a social enterprise to create a community friendly feel in the neighbourhood.
